The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and Oldham Theatre Workshop have partnered over the last three years to bring an exciting playwriting opportunity for young people aged in Oldham.
This year is slightly different as we have gone online but still offers young people aged 11-16yrs the chance to have their work performed by professional actors and see their words and ideas brought to life.
Every week from the 11th May 2020 students from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and Oldham Theatre Workshop's professional playwright Sarah Nelson have worked together to create 6 weekly video workshops to help you write your own piece of theatre. The theme is 'World Crisis' and they will help you explore this idea and come up with your own responses.
A video will be released each week until the week ending June 26th and these will help you create a short scripted piece from scratch. Each video will have lots of tips and advice for creating your very own characters and worlds.
You can then submit your piece by Wednesday 1st July by uploading it via the Oldham Theatre workshop website. Chosen pieces will go on to be part of an online performance and you will hear your work performed by professional actors.
All the video workshops and details of how you upload your work can be found on this page:

You can access them any time and complete the video workshops when it suits you.
The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama students, 'The Heartwood Initiative' would love to hear your feedback too! You can tell them what you think of the video workshops sessions, what you like and what other info/ suport you think would be good.
Happy playwriting and good luck!
