 Storytelling/Children’s Events

Purpose of role

To prepare and lead a children’s Storytime session, singing session or assist with story walks.

Main activities and tasks


1. Assist customer experience assistants with planning and preparation of story times

2. Select new themes

3. Help set up children’s area

4. Take part in or lead story time

5. Assist with Bounce & Rhyme and Baby days sessions

6. Learn and sing nursery rhymes

7. Help tidy up following session

Qualities, skills and experience


  1. Good communication skills with staff, volunteers, and members of the public.
  2. Experience working with children (not necessary)
  3. Have a patient and approachable manner.
  4. A reliable, confident and responsible approach.
  5. Effective interpersonal skills.
  6. Cope with the duties and responsibilities of the role and the associated environment, including an understanding of Health and Safety.
  7. Able to follow guidelines/instructions.
  8. Willing to acquire new knowledge and skills.
  9. Interested in promoting reading, learning and theatre.

Time commitment

There is a degree of flexibility around the shifts, and we are happy to discuss this with you.


and support

Volunteers will be inducted and trained prior to carrying out this role. They will also have a named supervisor who will provide ongoing support. Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed to agreed limits on production of receipts.




A DBS check will be required.
