Early Years Adventures - Faces

Image of 'Portrait of Two Sisters' by Aneela Majid. The image shows two women stood next to each other. One is wearing pink with blue detail and a matching blue scarf. The other is wearing Black with white spots.

For this adventure we’re taking our inspiration from ‘Portrait of Two Sisters’ by artist Aneela Majid, this is an oil painting in the galleries art collection.

Majid, a former student of the Royal Academy Schools, recently exhibited at Cartwright Hall Gallery, Bradford as part of the show ‘Women Artists: Act 1’. The exhibition marked 100 years since some women were allowed to vote in the UK, and aimed to raise the profile and representation of women artists.

Her work can also often be found in exhibitions at Gallery Oldham, especially in our collections show – the ones which showcase the artworks and items that Gallery Oldham look after for the people of Oldham. Majid’s work is especially popular with artists and individuals who are interested in portraiture.

A portrait is a picture of a person. It can be made from any materials from oil painting to sketching, portraits come in all shapes and sizes.
