Join Oldham Gallery shop as volunteer and help create a welcoming, engaging, and well-presented retail experience for visitors. In this role, you’ll play a key part in maintaining and enhancing the shop through excellent organisation, creative merchandising, and proactive stock management. Your efforts will help support the gallery’s cultural work by ensuring that visitors enjoy a high-quality shopping experience that reflects Oldham’s artistic and community spirit.

This is a hands-on role ideal for independent, confident, and self-motivated individuals who take pride in their work and enjoy keeping things organised and visually appealing. You’ll gain valuable experience in retail operations, display design, and customer engagement within a friendly, creative environment.

What's involved?

What we need from you:

• Conduct regular stock checks — counting and verifying items against inventory lists.

• Replenish shop displays and ensure products are attractively presented.

• Design and arrange engaging displays that encourage customer interest and sales.

• Identify stock gaps and make recommendations for new or replacement items.

• Note products for deselection that are damaged or have low sales.

• Prepare stock for display, including tagging, labelling, and ensuring it meets presentation standards.

• Assist with general shop maintenance — tidying shelves, cleaning displays, and ensuring the space looks its best.

What You’ll Need:

• Confidence and self-motivation, with the ability to work independently.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards.

• Good numeracy and reading skills for managing stock.

• Reasonable physical fitness, including the ability to bend, lift, and move stock.

• Ability to follow procedures while using initiative to improve displays or processes.

• A willingness to learn and contribute new ideas.

• An interest in art, culture, and retail environments.
